"On behalf of Robert Parker and everyone at the Wine Advocate and eRobertParker.com, I’m pleased to announce the two newest members of our reviewer team: Monica Larner and Luis Gutiérrez.
Monica Larner will be responsible for reviewing the wines of Italy. An American and fluent Italian speaker currently based in Rome, Italy, Monica has been living on and off in Italy since age 11. Having grown up in a household that celebrated a deep appreciation for the culture of wine, she developed a love for wine from an early age. After high school in both Italy and California, Monica earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees in journalism from Boston University and New York University respectively. In 2003 she became
Wine Enthusiast magazine’s first Italian editor. Over the course of the next ten years, her tasting responsibilities grew to producing 3,000 Italian wine notes per year (totalling 16,000 published reviews overall). She set up a tasting bureau near the Colosseum in Rome and continued her intense travel to the far-flung wine zones of Italy. Her proudest achievement is the 185-page special collector’s Wine Enthusiast “Wines of Italy” edition that showcases her decade-long body of work.
A native of Spain, Luis Gutiérrez joins us as our reviewer for Spain, Chile and Argentina. After more than two decades of working in an IT position for a large multinational company based in Madrid, sharing his free time between his family and wine, he has decided to make wine his full-time career. Luis was a founding member of
elmundovino.com, the prestigious wine website published in Spanish, where he has written and tasted since its creation in the year 2000. He has also written for other publications belonging to the El Mundo newspaper in Spain as well as contributing to different wine and gastronomy publications in Spain, Portugal, Puerto Rico and the UK. He was the Spanish specialist correspondent for Jancisrobinson.com since May 2011 and received the Spanish National Gastronomy Award for journalism in November 2012 from the Spanish Minister for Tourism. Today he continues to live in the Spanish capital with his British-Irish-Italian wife and their three children.
We hope you’ll join us in welcoming Monica and Luis to our team!
Cheers,
Lisa Perrotti-Brown.
